IBEW Local 89 recognizes an immediate need for workers in the political and nonprofit fields to have access to skills training, development tools, potential job opportunities, and to join a like-minded community which provides additional support as they work toward organizing their workplace.

In response to this need, IBEW Local 89, in partnership with the IBEW Political and Nonprofit Workers, has implemented an Associate Member Program.

The Associate Member program provides workers with training and development in political and nonprofit work skills. Associate Members will also have access to potential political and nonprofit job opportunities as available. Associate Membership gives each Associate access to a network of other political and nonprofit workers and IBEW members across the nation standing in support of organizing political and nonprofit workers.

Interested workers may become an Associate Member by submitting an Associate Member application. Once the application is approved, Associate Membership is $11.50 per month. Associate Membership is activated upon payment of the first month after the application has been approved. Once an Associate Member, workers will gain access to the IBEW PNW Slack, the hub for all resources, job listings, training opportunities, knowledge sharing, industry-specific events and more.

Associate Membership is intended to support and train workers on their path to unionizing and is in no way intended to replace full IBEW membership, when available. Workers may remain Associate Members until eligible to become full members under a collective bargaining agreement with IBEW. Once eligible, a worker will be expected to become an IBEW member under the appropriate Local Union. Upon initiation into the IBEW as a full member under a collective bargaining agreement, a worker shall not be allowed to return to the Associate Member status. Full IBEW members that subsequently lose employment shall have the option to maintain membership, go on the appropriate withdrawal, or choose another option that may be available under their IBEW membership level.

Associate Members of IBEW Local 89 will not be considered full IBEW members and shall not have the right to vote as a member or hold office, nor will they be eligible to participate in capacities limited specifically to IBEW members per the IBEW constitution or local bylaws until initiated as a full IBEW member.
